Rama's Story
After spending a considerable amount of time in establishing Go-Jek, Rama chose to take a break from his work. However, occasionally he still accepts invitations as a speaker related to the development of the start-up industry in Indonesia. One of the cities he visited was Surabaya. While in Surabaya, Rama met a friend and invited him to visit Bangilan, an area in Tuban, about 2 hours drive from Surabaya.
There, Rama chatted with local residents who made farming as his main job. Starting from this conversation, it turns out that they have a lot of financial problems, especially in matters of capital. So far they have had difficulty getting access to finance from banks and they have no other option but to get a loan from local money-lenders who charge them with very high interest rates.
Rama then decided to provide those farmers with a lower interest loan. Afterwards, the response was very positive. All farmers feel helped by this loan. And from this experience, Rama finds out that there are many Indonesians who still need an affordable access to financing.
Rama saw this as a good opportunity to help Indonesians who need those access to financial support. Starting from this, Rama decided to establish AwanTunai. Together with Dino and Windy, they have a vision to provide affordable financing for MSME players, which will later advance and empower people to grow and develop.
